When the Los Angeles Diaz family loses their ten-year old daughter to an abduction, the family
copes in the best way they know how, but sadly, the family falls apart. Five years later, the
resilient older brother, Julian, working at Loveya Latte Coffee Shop, meets mentors and friends,
including Cassidy, a troubled but talented teen. Julian and Cassidy fall in love. When Cassidy is
forced by her oppressively controlling father (a powerful record company executive) to move to
Nashville for the career he has planned for her, the couple writes a love song together and
promise to stay in touch. Cassidy, now “Cash,” becomes a famous pop star and breaks that
promise to spare Julian the wrath of her controlling father. She and Julian lose touch.
Five years later, although Julian took a harsh path to cope with losing Cash, kind mentors help
him heal and he becomes a paramedic and a regular volunteer for an organization, UNBOUND
AS ONE, whose mission is to rescue exploited young people and help them recover. Cash, caring
deeply about Julian’s family story, also has the same heart to help these young people. In a bold
move, she makes a break-away from her contract with her father, announcing that she is
heading to Australia to do a benefit concert for UNBOUND. Julian and Cash are unaware of each
other’s plans for Australia. When the star-crossed couple crosses paths at UNBOUND, sparks fly
and misunderstandings abound as several other plot twists and surprises unfold. When Victor
and Anna, UNBOUND’s dedicated leaders, exemplify and share the love that can overcome
heartache, injury, and even the worst of tragedies, conflicts begin to be resolved and the hope
and dreams of better days ahead shine brightly in the end.

The Characters of Not For Sale
Julian Diaz – Character ages through the story from a 14 year-old boy, to a
19 year-old barista at Loveya Latte, to a 24 year-old paramedic. May
require 2 actors? The 19 and 24-year-old Julians can be played by the same
actor. Julian is resilient, passionate, caring, deep.
Cassidy “Cash” Sterling – Character ages from 17 to 23. Cassidy is talented
and compassionate, but troubled, and eventually trapped by the demands
made on her life as a pop star.
Amaya “Yaya” Diaz – “Shirley Temple Cute” – Julian’s little sister, Character
ages from 10, to 15, to 20. Abducted at age 10, then rescued, she becomes
a helpful staff member for the UNBOUND as ONE organization. Requires 2
actresses. The 15 and 20-year-old Amaya can be played by the same
actress.
Henry – A paramedic. Ages from 23 to 28. Spunky, fun, and loyal friend and
mentor to Julian.
Mike Diaz – Julian and Amaya’s father, a dedicated, tough, no-nonsense
cop and family man.
Gloria Diaz – Julian and Amaya’s mother, smart and compassionate, a clinic
nurse who becomes a traveling nurse when family circumstances change.
Carter Blaze – A ex boy-band pop star in his early 20s, he is Cash’s on-tour
opening act and, for publicity’s sake, her love interest. Carter is extremely
charming, talented, and flirty, but a bit of a goofball when not performing.
He is one of the story’s comic relief characters.
Anna – A highly productive, middle aged to older woman who, with her
husband, Victor, runs a branch of UNBOUND as ONE (AKA, “UNBOUND”) a
safe house and rehabilitation program for exploited young people who
have been rescued. The organization’s world-wide goal is to also help all
involved in exploitation, including consumers and traffickers. Anna is wise,
strong, insightful, and passionate about their cause.
Victor– Anna’s productive but fairly “chill” and calm husband; helpful, kind,
hard-working, problem solver, passionate about their cause.
Zara – Teenage friend of Cassidy, bossy but fun. Straightforward, but kind.
Beautiful, rich, and talented.
Morgan – Teenage friend of Cassidy, sassy, a bit snobby, but fun. Also rich
and pretty, but more shallow than her friends.
Sarge – An older, homeless Army veteran. A wise man of good character.
Rescue Leaders (2) and Rescue Team
Eli Sterling – Cassidy’s rich, influential, and power-hungry father. A record
executive, he “owns” his daughter’s singing career which he believes will
give him control of her talent and life, giving him even more power and
influence in the music industry. Eli manipulates his daughter with fear. We
assume he is this way with all his protégés.
Les Powell – Cash’s and Carter’s agent and publicity coordinator; upbeat,
slightly pushy, focused.
Susan Garaway – Event coordinator for UNBOUND as ONE international
fund raiser concert. Slightly uptight, very focused.
Mirren Ward-Sterling – Cassidy’s status-seeking and emotionally detached
mother. All about appearances. Heiress to a fortune, she married not-as-
well-off Eli against her parents will. Constantly feels she has something to
prove to the world, even if it has to be through her daughter. Tolerates her
loveless marriage for the sake of the prenuptial agreement.
Two Military people
Jeremy – Expectant father at emergency entrance to hospital.
Eva – Expectant mother at emergency entrance to hospital.
Terry - Cash and Carter’s common sense and capable bodyguard.
Kate – Henry's paramedic partner. Becomes a nurse in Act II.
Lady “shoppers” – Two women posing as shoppers, one in a wheelchair.
Their agenda is to stalk vulnerable children to charm, then exploit.
Customers (2 or more) at the coffee shop where Julian works as a 19-year-
old.
Youth Residents at UNBOUND as ONE – young people ages anywhere from
about age 6 – 18
